Wander through.

There are four rooms, each set up a little differently, because people come here differently.

01 — COMMUNITY

The Community Room

This is where people gather to connect with others — chatting with a cup of coffee or tea in hand. It is also where people come to receive prayer from and pray for each other.

02 — STILLNESS

The Quiet Room

No talking here. Move through simple, guided prayer stations at your own pace, praying as you go. No one will approach you, so it's a good space for working through something alone.

03 — REFLECTION

The Journaling Room

Settle in to journal on your own, or sit and pray with someone else. Come and go as you like, whether you want company or just quiet time to write.

04 — SOLITUDE

The Solo Room

Built for one person at a time. Come here to be completely alone, whether you want to paint, sit quietly, or just be still for a while.

A great place to join in community and receive prayer. Noelle does a neat job with the different rooms: quiet contemplation, writing and reading, painting, and then my favorite: the community room where we come together in agreement and seek God for His will in our lives, at New England College, and in Henniker.

Third Friday evenings

Something a little different

On the third Friday of the month, The Living Room is open in the evening, and on some of those nights a worship leader joins for a music night. The atmosphere is warmer and more communal than a typical open hour. You're welcome to sit with the music or find a quieter room to pray while it plays in the background.

A few things worth knowing

You don’t have to be ready

You don't have to know how to pray. You don't have to be in a good place spiritually. You don't have to be comfortable with church. You don't have to explain why you came.

People have walked in off the street just curious what the place was. They've been asked if they wanted prayer, and almost all of them said yes. People who said "I'll just stay five minutes" have stayed two hours.

Come as you are. There's a spot for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do services cost at The Living Room?

All services at The Living Room are provided free of charge —the prayer room, one-on-one counseling, spiritual direction, retreat facilitation, prayer workshops. All of it runs on donations, not a price tag. Give what you're able. If you can't right now, come anyway. Click here to donate.

Do I need to book ahead to visit?

No. During open hours, the space is free and open to anyone — no booking or registration necessary. If you'd like to visit outside open hours, reach out and we'll find a time that works.

What if I've never prayed before, or don't know how?

That's completely fine. You don't need to know how to pray to come. There's no right way to use the space — sit quietly, write something down, light a candle, or just be still. However you show up is the right way. If you want guidance, there are easy to follow stations to guide you in prayer as well as a host who will be happy to pray with you or talk with you about prayer, if you desire.

Do I have to talk to anyone when I arrive?

No. You can come in, wander through the rooms, and leave without ever speaking to a soul. If you'd like to talk, a host is usually around during open hours and happy to chat, but it's never expected.

Is this only for people who already go to church?

Not at all. The Living Room is for anyone — people who've never set foot in a church, people who've stepped away from church, and people who are still figuring out what they believe. You don't need to be comfortable with church to be comfortable here.

Is there parking?

Yes. There's parallel parking right out front on Main Street, plus additional spots shared with the nearby shops.

Can I bring a friend or come with a group?

Yes. The community room is set up for people to gather together, and you're welcome to bring someone with you. For larger groups or retreats, reach out ahead of time so we can plan accordingly and schedule a time that works best.

Is the space wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The Living Room is easily accessible. It is located on the first floor. There is a ramp going inside, as well as railings on the hallway walls.

What if I'm not sure The Living Room is "religious enough" or "religious too much" for me?

The Living Room is an ecumenical Christian space, but it's built to be neutral and welcoming regardless of where you're starting from. Whether you're deeply rooted in faith or still wondering what you believe, there's room for you here.

Can I request prayer without visiting in person?

Yes. Reach out through the contact page and we will pray for you, even if you can't make it in.

What if I want something more than an open visit — like counseling or spiritual direction?

The Living Room offers one-on-one spiritual counseling, spiritual direction, and retreat facilitation by appointment. You can book a session or just reach out to talk through what might help.

Are dogs allowed on-site?

We keep the space pet-free so it stays quiet and comfortable for everyone. Service dogs only, please.

I don’t understand why I feel so calm here. I’ve never felt this kind of peace.
